The Chinese University of Hong Kong
The International Symposium on Ligaments and Tendons (ISL&T) was founded by Professor Savio L-Y.Woo in 1999. For nine years, it was organized annually in the United States, however, this year it made its first debut in Hong Kong. Inheriting the tradition, ISL&T-X continued to be the ideal global platform for idea exchange of research on ligaments and tendons. The internationality of ISL&T reached a new peak having participants from 15 different countries/regions.
Professor Kai-Ming Chan was the Planning Committee Chair for ISL&T-X and Professor Chih-Hwa Chen and Professor Pauline Lui were the Program Chairs. ISL&T-X was a two day program with the first day following the tradition of ISL&T and the second day, an Associative Program with more emphasis on discussion, workshops as well as understanding the research and its settings at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. The first day consisted of 8 keynote lectures, 32 podium presentations and 23 posters. ISL&T-X was attended by 130 faculty, students and fellows.
There were a total of 7 awards given at the ISL&T-X including the first Savio Woo Young Researcher Awards. The Woo Awards were given to individuals who have preformed the best research studies in three major areas, biomechanical, biological and clinical and to provide financial support to attend the ISL&T meeting to present their work.
