Founded in 1997 by Dr. Savio L-Y. Woo, the Asian♦American Institute for Research and Education, or the ASIAM Institute, is an independent, tax-exempt IRS code 501(c) (3) public charitable organization.

Dr. Woo received the International Olympic Committee’s 1998 Olympic Prize for Sports Science endowed by Parke-Davis/Warner Lambert/Pfizer in recognition of the many significant contributions made by him and his team to the science and practice of sports medicine. Dr. and Mrs. Woo chose to donate the $250,000 prize money to establish ASIAM.

With the generous giving by board members as well as by numerous friends, students, and fellows, ASIAM Institute has awarded over $2.14 million in scholarships and fellowships to students, fellows, and young investigators. We have also sponsored a large number of worthy candidates to attend scientific conferences around the world.2
