It was my honor to receive the Savio & Pattie Woo Research Scholarship for my summer research internship at the MSRC. It provided me a chance to perform research related to my own academic field, Biomedical Engineering. I was glad to have Dr. Woo and his post-doctoral research fellow, Dr. Norihiro Sasaki, as my mentors. Under their guidance, I have gained a deeper understanding of how to conduct research, including project planning and design as well as conducting experiments. I also improved my communication and organizational skills.

During my internship, I worked on a project on anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction using quadriceps and hamstrings tendons. We investigated the biomechanical performance of the knee using a quadriceps tendon and compared the results to those with hamstrings tendon graft.

It was an extremely valuable experience for me. Working at the MSRC let me have a glimpse of academic research. More importantly, I have become more independent and active as well as I learned to figure out solutions for problems. I thank everyone at the MSRC for this great learning experience.
