Recipient of the Dr. Marc and Mrs. Senenne Philippon Research Scholarship
I am sincerely honored to be the recipient of the
Dr. Marc and Mrs. Senenne Philippon Research Scholarship for the Summer Undergraduate Research Program at the Musculoskeletal Research Center (MSRC) at the University of Pittsburgh. I am an Honors College sophomore at the University of Pittsburgh.
Having little research experience beforehand, the MSRC served as a strong foundation for my understanding of the correct way to perform research. The MSRC has created a pathway for me to pursue my interests in orthopaedics through research. Not only have I learned how to do research, but I also learned the reasoning and value behind each step along the way. My project this summer focused on a Magnesium- based suture anchor for soft tissue fixation using a rotator cuff goat model. By reviewing literature and giving presentations, I was able to learn about rotator cuff repair with suture anchors and the different materials used to make the anchors today.
I would like to thank
Dr. Woo for giving me his expertise and guidance as a role model in performing successful research methods. I would also like to thank
Ms. Jonquil Flowers and
Dr. Antonio Pastrone for being my mentors and guiding me in the right direction every step along the way. The MSRC students and staff have all been very supportive and motivating over the course of the summer and I also want to thank them. Finally, I want to thank Dr. and Mrs. Philippon for their generous scholarship and ASIAM Institute for Research and Education for giving me this great opportunity
