Savio L-Y. Woo Translational Biomechanics Medal 2020

The Savio L-Y. Woo Translational Biomechanics Medal recognizes meritorious contributions in translating Bioengineering research to clinical applications to improve quality of life. The 2020 recipient is Dr. Mehmet Toner. Dr. Toner is the Helen Andrus Benedict Professor of Biomedical Engineering and presented his award lecture entitled “My Journey in Bioengineering on the Shoulders of Early Visionaries” at the SB³C.

Dr. Toner and his team have made major research contributions to biomedical engineering such as the development of cell patterning techniques to interrogate heterotypic and homotypic cell-cell communications; the development of the micro-engineered bioartificial liver system that over comes the major transport-related shortcomings of the clinical bioartificial liver systems as well as many others.
