About

Founded in 1997 by Dr. Savio L-Y. Woo, Asian♦American Institute for Research and Education, or ASIAM Institute, is an independent, tax-exempt IRS code 501(c)(3) public charitable organization. Dr. Woo received the International Olympic Committee’s 1998 Olympic Prize for Sports Science endowed by Parke-Davis in recognition of the many significant contributions made by him and his team to the science and practice of sports medicine. Dr. & Mrs. Woo chose to donate almost all of the $250,000 prize money to establish ASIAM. Since then, generous giving by board members as well as numerous friends, students and fellows of Dr. & Mrs. Woo have sustained ASIAM’s mission.

ASIAM Institute has awarded over $1.4 million in research scholarships and fellowships to young, up-and-coming students, fellows and investigators. We have also sponsored a large number of young investigators to attend scientific conferences.
